Screening & Appropriate Assessments (AIES)

assessing impacts to SACThe ecologists at Oatlands Ecology have both the experience and the necessary expertise to carry out both Screening and Appropriate Assessment.
We can:
• Determine whether there is likely to be any impacts to a European designated site. This is usually determined as part of the initial
Ecological Assessment
• Produce a Screening Report (if required) to assess what these impacts are and if they are ecologically significant
• Carry out an Appropriates Assessment if the Screening process identifies significant ecological impacts are likily

Legislation
Regulation 61 of the Conservation of Species and Habitats Regulations 2010 states that any project “likely to have a significant effect on a European site” must be subjected to an Appropriate Assessment. This relates to the assessment of impacts on European designated sites and the measures needed to minimise these impacts.

Before an Appropriate Assessment is carried out it must first be ascertained whether any adverse impacts are likely and if these impacts are ecologically significant. This is determined during the initial Ecological Assessment and the Screening stage.

An Appropriate Assessment requires a robust structured, systematic and objective approach carried out by an ecologist with sufficient expertise and experience.
