Invasive & Controlled species

Oatlands Ecology can:
• Quickly establish whether Controlled Species are present
• Determine whether Controlled Species will be impacted
• Offer pragmatic advice on efficient, cost effective methods of eradication and removal without costly over mitigation
• Prepare Method Statements to prevent impacts to Controlled Species

Legislation
It is an offence to “plant or otherwise cause to grow in the wild” all species of plants listed on Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Due to amendments in the legislation in 2010 over 50 species are now included on Schedule 9

Issues
Many of these species are common across the UK, particularly in urban areas, post-industrial sites and along watercourses. However many are difficult to identify and often not discovered until late in the develpoment process resulting in significant delays and serious cost implications.

Oatlands Ecology strongly advise that surveys for these species are carried out at the earliest opportunity preferably before purchasing land for development.
